The original board game is played out on a grey board of two halves where you have to guess an opponent’s battleship positions and sink them, all the while hoping they do not find and sink your ships. So If you recall being a kid and playing this game and screaming “I sunk your battleship” at the top of your lungs then you will know what this slot is all about!

Special Features

The first feature to highlight is the Wild symbol and this is illustrated by a dark red and black ship mine. This symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Bonus symbol. The neat thing about this symbol is that it can expand and turn a whole reel Wild. The only downside of this symbol is that it only appears on reels 2-5 in the main game.

The main attraction of this game is the Battleship Target Practice bonus game. To trigger it, you need to land 3 or more Bonus symbols in the main game. The Bonus symbol is depicted by the word “Bonus” with a target sign. In this feature, much like the board game, you get to move ships around on a new grid. To move the ships, all you have to do is drag and drop a ship by dragging it across to the position of your choice on the grid. It is possible to rotate a ship by 90 degrees and if you like to roll the dice then click the “Random” button to move all the ships into random positions on the board. Once your ships are in position, you can begin a missile barrage by pressing the “Play” button. The more ships that you hit then the more Free Spins you will earn. That is not all as you will also earn coins for each ship that you sink. For example, if you sink a Battleship then you will be awarded 3X your total bet whereas a Carrier will give you a nice 4X your total bet.

When this feature ends, you are then taken to the Free Spins game. In this feature, the Bonus symbols are transformed into target crosshairs and you can change the positions of these targets before pressing “Set” to begin this game. You will be given Targets based on how many Bonus symbols you originally landed. So if you landed 4 Bonus symbols then you will be given 4 Targets to position. The main objective of this game is to land ship symbols in target positions again much like the board game. If you hit a ship the required number of times then the ship symbol will transform into a Wild symbol for the remaining Free Spins and you will receive 2 Free Spins on top of that. If you have a bit of luck and an eagle-eye and manage to turn all the ship symbols wild then you will be awarded a lovely bonus prize of 1,000 coins!

Theme, Graphics and Sound

The game is nicely laid out in a sonar field-like setting with nice silhouettes of ships and submarines in the background. It has quite a polished and clean design and the symbols are nicely drawn and feature lots of colour and detail. There are some interesting animations when you land some wins such as patrol boats motoring along and ship mines exploding to transform reels into Wild reels.

There is not that much music in this game to mention but there are some nice jingle effects when you form wins across the reels. It would have been cool if there was some atmospheric music to go with this game as Battleship Wild Targets is quite an intensive game to play but it’s not really that big a deal.

Battleship Wild Targets is produced by Gamesys and it's a faithful representation of a hugely popular board game. I have to say that Gamesys have done a tremendous job of updating this classic game and transforming it into a really exciting slot game. The Bonus game will keep players entertained for quite some time and it is nice that you can trigger additional free spins in the game.
