Mr Green has announced a new environmental project in partnership with the University of Malta. As part of the ‘Clean the Seas Project’ Mr Green employees and students from the University of York in the UK will clean the shores and waters around Malta while collecting data on sea levels and marine life. Mr Green is a Swedish online gaming operation which is licensed and regulated by the LGA, Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority, and has its headquarters in the island’s town of Sliema.

Mr Green CEO Jesper Kärrbrink announced the new ‘Clean the Sea initiative at the Hilton Portomaso coastal hotel alongside Maltese Environment Minister Jose Herrera. The Minister delivered an opening speech which praised the company’s commitment to safeguarding Malta’s environment. Speaking at the event Kärrbrink said; “We look to drive awareness of the health status of the sea by spreading the knowledge we obtain from the studies and from the physical appearance we have around the beaches of Malta. We hope to be able to leave an educational and sincere effect on the individuals we meet throughout the summer and through sharing the research material we produce.”

As part of the 8-week project, a Mr Green branded rib will scour the Malta shoreline every morning collecting debris and conducting an academic study about the impact of plastics on marine environments. The project is being overseen by Alan Deidun, Director of the International Ocean Institute, who will be using his own students as well as Mr Green employees and students from the University of York who are studying for an MSc. in Marine Environmental Management to carry out the work. The project aims to clean the coastal waters off the Malta shoreline, collect data on water pollution and raise awareness regarding the health of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Clean Seas Project is the brainchild of Mr Green CEO Jesper Kärrbrink who has always been passionate about environmental issues and the ocean. He has always emphasised Mr Green’s commitment to sustainability through responsible gaming and business practices and the environment. He has called this policy for sustainability as ’The Green Way’, covering all of the company’s sustainability practices. Speaking at the launch of the project Kärrbrink said, “Living in Malta we share the greatest benefit of enjoying the beautiful sea around us. But will it maintain its beauty and attraction for long if we do not see the damage of our own footprint and act responsibly to keep it clean and healthy for generations to come?”
