Amaya fined for allowing wagers from out of state players

2017-02-10 15:13:45

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) said a “flaw” in geolocation software-enabled players outside the state to gamble at PokerStarsNJ.com, which is in strict violation of the DGE’s strict intrastate gambling rules.

NJDGE fined Amaya €23,500 in a decision taken on January 20th, but it was only announced this week.

The NJDGE said its investigation had revealed that a handful of out-of-state gamblers were able to bet “for a short period of time before a subsequent geolocation check detected such patrons and blocked them”.

NJDGE also added that PokerStars has since deployed an update to its software to fix this issue.

Last year in June, gaming technology supplier GAN was fined a similar amount in New Jersey for having “inadvertently activated software” that allowed six out-of-state gamblers to wager via Betfair Interactive.
